Updated diploma program prepares grads for in-demand career in six months

Winnipeg, MB – August 30, 2013 - As Manitoba’s population ages, the demand for well-trained health care aides is expected to grow. According to the Manitoba’s Career Planning Guide, the employment outlook for health care aides in the province is very good. And, with CDI College’s updated Health Care Aide program, those interested in a career in caregiving can get started in just a few months.

Students in the Health Care Aide program learn the essentials they need to excel in on the job. They study human development throughout the lifespan, interpersonal communication, chronic conditions, fundamentals of anatomy and medical terminology. They learn about the major areas health care aides work in, including home support, assisting clients with special needs, palliative care and family support. CPR, First Aid, conflict management, food handling, data collection and reporting are also covered.

Prior to graduation, students complete a six-week clinical placement where they gain hands-on experience working with a range of clients. As graduates, they’ll be prepared for employment in long-term care facilities, home healthcare agencies, retirement homes, hospices, group homes and more.
