Alberta's Practical Nursing Field is Projected to Grow through 2015

March 27, 2012 | Alberta

Aspiring healthcare professionals in Alberta may find wealth of job opportunities in the healthcare sector in the next few years. The practical nursing field is expected to grow at a steady pace through the next three years, according to the Alberta Learning Information Service website. Those who pursue this career path could work closely with individuals, families or groups in a variety of healthcare settings, depending on their preferences.

Generally, practical nurses (PNs) should possess skills in planning, critical thinking, communications and team collaboration. They'll use their clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills to properly diagnose patients and provide the best care. On a day-to-day basis, they may assess, plan and implement nursing care to their patients in acute care, long-term care, community or primary health clinics.

Ultimately, practical nurses need to have a passion for working with people. They collaborate with doctors, registered nurses and other healthcare professionals. And, most importantly, they must be able to bond with their patients.

Students who think this type of position is the right future for them can enroll in the Practical Nursing program at CDI College in Alberta. To begin registration, fill out the form on the right.
