Top IT Skills for 2013

Monday, October 29, 2012

With technology trends changing by the day, it's no surprise that information technology (IT) executives plan to hire significantly more skilled employees over the next year. According to the 2013 Forecast survey issued by Computerworld, 33 per cent of 334 participating IT employers revealed that they would be on the search for new talent in the following 12 months.

Just like with any job sector, certain skill sets are crucial to finding a spot at top technology firms across the country. According to Computerworld's comprehensive data, a number of talents are the first things that recruiters look for when scouring resumes or interviewing job applicants. If students are thinking about pursuing a career in IT, they can be sure to hone these skills while taking courses at CDI College.

Help Desk/Technical Support
According to the survey, 35 per cent of respondents intend to hire professionals with this particular skill by the end of 2013. When companies acquire new software systems or applications, it is crucial that they have qualified workers that can help other employees use the products. Not only do they need these workers for smoothly run in-house processes, but they need help desk workers to handle customers who are getting accustomed to new services. When a company introduces unfamiliar products, it should also anticipate an influx of client calls, and as a result, have enough skilled staff to take care of those issues.

The report also reveals that 19 per cent of survey participants plan to recruit networking professionals in the coming year. Solid experience in this field is a must for IT job seekers to land the positions they desire. Taking courses in subjects like Linux, internetworking and acquiring effective professional skills can help them become well-rounded students who are ready to take on a full-time job in the field.

Data Administration
Lastly, data centre management is a necessary skill, according to 16 per cent of respondents in the report. Understanding how to maintain a variety of network devices, from routers to switchers, can help ensure that a student can adapt to various companies' diverse computer systems. With the right education, they can successfully work for a number of different organizations and help run a successful business.

Students who are interested in finding a career in IT can enroll in networking courses at CDI College. For more information, fill out the form on the right.
