Things to Do in Ajax

Ajax residents have the best of both worlds. Located a short 25 km trip from Toronto, citizens have all of the metropolitan benefits of the big city as well as the small town feel that comes with living along the shores of beautiful Lake Ontario.

Ajax's most remarkable feature is the waterfront. With six kilometers stretching down the shoreline, the Ajax Waterfront is the largest undeveloped waterfront in the Toronto area. Residents love this area, especially the seven kilometer multi-use trail that is popular for walking, jogging, biking and roller-blading.  

Away from the lakeshore, Ajax has over an additional 70 km of trails for all sorts of outdoor fun. The Greenwoods Conservation Area trails have both paved and unpaved routes that are ideal for hiking and picnicking. The Achilles, Ajax and Duffins Bay Greenbelt trails are ideal spots for hiking, mountain biking and inline skating.

Ajax has several spots for aquatics and recreational swimming. The city has two indoor pools that are open all year long and several outdoor sites such as an outdoor pool, two splash pads and a wading pool. The outdoor sites open in late June and close in early September.

For creative and cultural events, the city has several events throughout the year. The Ajax Festival of the Arts includes a creative arts open house, a kids' creative festival, concerts and musical performances, theatre pieces and more. There are several local artist exhibitions at McLean Community Centre each January.

Additionally, Ajax has some excellent public art features at various spots around the city. Some of the most noticeable include the anchor sculpture, fountain and metalwork gate at Ajax Town Hall; the Vasika mhuri at McLean Community Centre; and the totem poles at the Ajax Community Centre and along Duffins Trail.
