How embracing fun at work can lead to a more productive workday.

Vancouver, BC - June 15, 2010 - The 2010 FIFA World Cup is big business. This soccer event celebrates passion and diversity and every game is a testament to good teamwork. In fact, one of the philosophies of the game is to embrace the fun of World Cup, ultimately leading to a more productive workday.

In today's fast-paced and demanding work environment, it's critical to have a corporate culture that is supportive of employees while giving them permission for having fun. "Best Place to Work" awards are often given to companies that schedule events ranging from an annual indoor golf tourney to armchair races to delivering ice cream sandwiches on a summer afternoon. These are more than fun activities, they're easy (and cheap!) team building activities.

Many larger companies are consciously shaping their culture by promoting a lighter mood during working hours. Small businesses more easily adopt a culture of fun. For example, one leading advertising agency is hanging flags and offering snacks during every televised soccer game. It is encouraging employees, vendors and clients to drop by their "lounge" to watch the game. This seemingly small gesture creates a fun work dynamic and builds goodwill and loyalty among employees.

What type of corporate culture appeals to you and does the company know how to have fun?
